Inhabiting a previously empty little spot along the Ärstaviken promenade in Stockholm stands the Park Opera. It started as a way to give a last life to a piano doomed to go to the dump. Together with my friend Erik Hidemark we set out to design a stage for it in the city. The project was both a guerilla gift to the public space and an experiment, seeing how long a piano could be left on its own without being absolutely trashed, or taken away by authorities.
Five years later it has become a part of the city. Known, used and loved by many locals. The piano itself is replaced every other spring with another unwanted one so the music can live on.
