DOOR SYNTHESISER SIGN
Door synthesiser worm rotterdam

Synthesisers can be really complicated, and rather intimidating to many, with all their buttons, knobs, sliders, menus, cables and names with strange abbreviations. I wanted to make something completely different. Combining the synth with an everyday object that everyone is familiar with makes the experience of using it a surprise. As an object it is also naturally inviting for anyone to try.

The door synthesiser consists of four analog synth modules. An Oscillator, a filter, an LFO and an envelope generator, all hidden inside the door. The opening of the door opens the filter, the key controls the pitch, the handle the LFO rate, and the envelope generator (sent to the pitch) is obviously triggered by the letterbox.

The result is a fun instrument that is intuitively played and a nightmare to transport.
